ZANZIBAR HEROES FLY TO CAIRO

Minister for information, Culture and Sports, Ali Juma Shamhuna.

Isles Minister for information, Culture and Sports, Ali Juma Shamhuna said the standard of soccer in Zanzibar is steadily improving, since the national team started annual training visits to Egypt.

The minister was addressing players and officials of the Zanzibar national team, The Heroes, before the team boarded a Cairo-bound flight, yesterday.

He referred Zanzibar Heroes’ performance in the Senior Challenge Cup staged in Kampala last January as a remarkable show to be proud of.

Shamhuna was in the opinion that Zanzibar soccer players have their standard on the rise. He urged the players to concentrate on the tour so as to uplift their standard from where they are now positioned.

He insisted on stepping up the team’s performance in the next international event, particularly the senior Challenge Cup tourney.

Shamhuna said Zanzibar government will continue to back football and other sports according to its policy. Zanzibar Heroes are visiting Egypt for the third year running as per an agreement reached between the two governments
