COCA COLA CUP TANZANIA FINISHED THIRD

Tanzania Copa Coca-Cola team finished third in the Inter-Africa under-17 championship after edging Malawi by 2-0 goals in a match played at the Absa Stadium in Pretoria yesterday. Two first half goals by Issa Rashid as early as the sixth minute and Himid Mao’s well converted penalty after 42 minutes were enough to wrap up the victory.Joseph Mahundi was roughed up by Malawian defender for Mao to take shooting responsibility. The final will be played between hosts South Africa and Nigeria at the same venue today. The Tanzanian boys, who had a rollercoaster show to end preliminaries with five matches unbeaten run, had their title retention bid in disarray after losing to Nigeria by 2-1 goals in the semifinal tie played on Wednesday.Otherwise, Tanzania beat Ethiopia 5-0, Africa Invite 4-2, Malawi 1-0 and Namibia 3-1 before drawing 1-1 with Kenya in their final group stage match.Head coach Rodrigo Stockler, who trained the team barely for two weeks, said his boys worked above the call of duty to beat Malawi in a rain-soaked pitch and emerge victorious.
