SIMBA ARE VPL CHAMPIONS

Simba are the new Vodacom Premier League champions after big spenders Azam FC were defeated 2-1 by Mtibwa Sugar in a match that was played at Chamazi Stadium on Friday.
Table chasers Azam were forced to replay the match against their opponents after Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) committee overturned a decision made by Premier League committee in which they were awarded three points.
Azam’s failure to win the match means that Simba who are on top of the log with 59 points, six points ahead, will lift the title regardless of the result of their match against rivals Yanga on Sunday.
“We are delighted to be crowned champions. This is very important for us since we are dethroning our rivals Yanga. It would be different if Azam won and piled pressure on us ahead of the derby but the contrary happened and we are happy.”
“Now we can face Yanga on Sunday with less pressure knowing that we are the champions despite the results registered. However, we want a strong finish in the league against our rivals and we are aiming for a win.”
“Our coach Cirkovic Milovan has positively influenced the team and when you look at our style of play, its different and we have improved,” said Simba Spokesperson Ezekiel Kamwaga.
Simba have now equalled Yanga’s record of 18 premier league titles. Last season they missed out on the crown on goal difference.
